1 in 6 women name wrong dad in CSA paternity cases

All CSA material sent to parents carries warnings that it is a criminal offence to supply false information. But the CSA admitted no mothers had been prosecuted, or named and shamed for falsely naming the father of a child. TCS wins 54.7 mn pound contract from UK C-MEC agency
TCS’s role will be to integrate a number of proven solutions to support the ‘future scheme’ of CMEC

BANGALORE, INDIA: Global IT service provider Tata Consultancy Services has been selected by UK-based Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission (CMEC) to provide IT systems for various schemes managed by it. TCS will be paid £54.7 million to provide the system, according to computerweekly.com.

CMEC decided to replace the two schemes currently provided by the Child Support Agency (CSA) because of the complaint of failures.

"Many of the justified complaints against the old CSA were the result of the limitations of its IT systems. While we have made good progress since 2006 in improving those systems, it is essential that IT issues will not distract from a parent's duty to financially provide for their children."

CMEC said TCS's role will be to integrate a number of proven solutions to support the 'future scheme' including; case management, case assessment and payment calculations, automated scheduling of payments in and out, financial and arrears management and enforcement.

Software products will include Oracle's Siebel customer relationship management system and the TCS BáNCS banking product.

Other software products will be sourced from Experian, Genysys, IBM and Oracle. Analyst firm Ovum described TCS' win is a big surprise and said that it is the first example of how the public sector IT market will be reshaped by the recession.

"The longer the recession goes on, the more the market will be reshaped in favour of suppliers that can deliver low-cost, high-quality services. Providers with a strong offshore/onshore delivery capability are going to be in pole position to benefit," observed Ovum analyst Peter Clarke.
